SUBREVELATION

Agora Gallery, Manhattan, 2007
Presented at Agora Gallery in Manhattan in 2007, Subrevelation extended the intuitive method established in Cavilla’s earlier work into a broader and more ambitious visual language. Figures remained central, but they were now joined by animals, landscapes and fragmented forms, all discovered through the act of painting rather than organized around predetermined narratives. The psychological intensity of Woman with Fish and Kneeling Woman sits alongside the fractured ambiguity of Figment and Screaming Obstacle and the expansive space of Casares. Across these shifts in subject and scale, the imagery became more deliberate without losing its sense of discovery. The exhibition marked the point at which Cavilla’s private visual vocabulary began to reveal its wider range.
