In Venus and Neptune, Cavilla folds two reclining figures into a close embrace, their interlocking limbs forming a broad curve across the canvas. Deep blue and warm ochre distinguish their bodies, while a field of irregular gold-leaf rectangles lends the scene a luminous, mosaic-like setting. Closed eyes and gently resting hands bring tenderness to the figures’ substantial forms, giving the mythological union an intimate, human presence.
