Paul Cavilla is a Canadian-born visual artist and art consultant based in San Roque, southern Spain.
Drawing on more than three decades of experience in painting, murals and site-specific commissions, he helps designers and homeowners select, commission and place art with confidence. His approach combines an artist’s sensitivity to colour, scale and atmosphere with a practical understanding of how artwork functions within an interior.
ARTIST & ART CONSULTANT
Paul Cavilla is a graduate of Communication and Design at the Ontario College of Art, specializing in Art Direction. After spending a formative year studying fine art in Florence, he subsequently developed a wide-ranging practice across Canada, the United States, Europe and Latin America, creating paintings, murals and sculptural installations for private residences, restaurants, schools, corporate spaces and hospitality venues.
His paintings have been exhibited in Toronto, New York and Medellín and are held in private collections in several countries. Working intuitively through layered colour and texture, he has developed a visual language that moves between the figure, landscape, aquatic imagery and abstraction.
Cavilla’s understanding of interiors began under the tutelage of his father, an interior designer, and deepened through years of working directly with clients, designers and contractors on large-scale commissioned projects. That experience now informs his art-consultation practice, from identifying suitable work and developing new commissions, to advising on scale, placement, framing, lighting, delivery, and installation.
Based in the historic centre of San Roque, near Gibraltar, Cavilla offers art consultation across Gibraltar and the Costa del Sol. His role is to support the vision of the designer or client, and the character of the space, whether the answer is one of his own paintings, a work by another artist, photography, or sculpture.
His wider creative practice includes speculative fiction, literary narration, and jazz music; all connected by an enduring interest in image, story, mythology and human experience.
