In Kneeling Woman, Cavilla sets a bowed figure against a luminous yellow ground, her copper-red hair falling to one side as her body settles into the kneeling pose. Rounded limbs and strong dark contours give the figure a grounded, sculptural presence, while the heavily worked surface carries traces of ochre, rust and green. Her lowered gaze brings a contemplative quiet to the painting, echoing the surrender suggested by its accompanying words.
