SUBVARIANTS

LA CASA INDEPENDENCIA, MEDELLÍN, 2021.

Presented in 2021 at La Casa Independencia, a cultural centre in Sabaneta, Medellín, Subvariants revealed how fully Cavilla’s visual language had diversified while remaining coherent. Landscape, figure, aquatic imagery, and abstraction are treated not as separate directions, but as related outcomes of the same intuitive process. The monumental Erindule provides a meditative centre while Greta and Courtier compress into small, archetypal presences; and the fish paintings and atmospheric abstractions move between recognition and ambiguity. Rather than presenting another linear progression, the exhibition revealed a mature practice capable of branching into different subjects, scales and emotional registers. Each individual work became a variant of a common underlying language, with its continuity residing in the process of discovery itself.
