“Mirrors are strange.”

In Filtering This, Cavilla places a red-draped figure beside an oval mirror, where an abstracted image appears at an oblique angle. Pale gold, cream and violet marks fragment both images, their features emerging through a densely worked surface. The vivid red against the green ground gives the composition a strong visual tension, while the difference between the figure and its reflected image invites questions about recognition and self-perception.
