En Medusa, Cavilla reimagines the mythic figure through a fragmented face surrounded by curling, serpentine forms. Charcoal lines define the features while muted reds, ochres and greys soften the image’s darker associations. The asymmetry of the eyes and overlapping contours create a shifting expression that feels vulnerable as well as formidable. Rather than presenting Medusa solely as a monster, the work finds humanity and beauty within a figure traditionally defined by fear.
